Christmas is a sacred religious holiday in Christianity:

Christmas is a sacred religious holiday that falls on December 25 and is also a social and business event in and of itself. For two centuries, people all over the world have observed it with strict and common practices. Christians observe Christmas Day to honor Jesus of Nazareth, a significant pioneer whose teachings form the foundation of their religion, who was born on this day. Some well-known customs include giving gifts to friends and family, decorating Christmas trees, going to church, feeding friends and family, and clearly believing that Santa Claus will appear. In the United States, Christmas Day has been a government holiday since around 1870.
The Historical Background of Christmas:
The middle of winter has long been a time for celebration all over the world. Even during the darkest, longest winters, early Europeans celebrated birth and light, hundreds of years before the man who would become known as Jesus. Numerous people groups cheered during the winter solstice, when they could anticipate longer days and longer stretches of daylight and the worst of the cold was over.
The end of December was a great time to celebrate in many parts of Europe. To avoid having to care for them during the cooler months, the majority of dairy cattle at the time were killed. For some, it was the potential season when they had fresh meat on hand. Additionally, the majority of the year’s beer and wine had finished maturing and were now ready to be consumed.
Germans worshipped the agnostic god Oden in the middle of winter. Because they believed that Oden flew through the night to locate his family and decide who would live or die, the Germans feared Oden. Due to his presence, many individuals chose to remain inside.

In Rome, where winters were not quite as harsh as those in the far north, Saturnalia and Christmas were celebrated. Saturnalia was a time of celebration to honor Saturn, the divine force behind gardening. Saturnalia was a libertine festival that started in the week before the winter solstice and went on for a whole month. There was a lot of food and drink at this time, and the usual social request for Romans was changed. For a month, subjugated people were given temporary opportunities and treated equally. Businesses and schools were closed so that everyone could enjoy the festivities.
Is the actual day that Jesus was born Christmas?
For the early Christians, Easter was the most important holiday; Jesus’ first public appearance was not commemorated. Church leaders decided to take a break from Jesus’ first public appearance in the fourth century. Even though there is evidence to suggest that he was introduced to the world in the spring (how could shepherds crowd around Pope Julius in the middle?), the Bible makes no mention of when he first appeared in the world (a fact that the Puritans later changed all together to prevent the authenticity from winning the festival).I chose December 25 because it is generally agreed that the congregation chose this day to adopt the traditions of the agnostic Saturnalia celebration. It came to Egypt in 432 and Britain in the sixth century as the Dining Experience of the Nativity.
In the middle of the seventeenth century, a flurry of stringent modifications altered the manner in which Christmas was observed in Europe at the time. In 1645, when Oliver Cromwell and his Puritan rulers took control of Britain, they made Christmas a part of their work and promised to get rid of excess. By popular demand, Charles II was elevated to a high position, heralding the beginning of the well-known event.

When the English separatist explorers arrived in America in 1620, they followed Puritan ideals much more strictly than Cromwell did. Christmas did not exist in early America as a result. From 1659 to 1681, the Christmas holiday was actually outlawed in Boston. Anyone who showed the Christmas spirit was fined five shillings. Commander John Smith, on the other hand, stated that Christmas was a success in the Jamestown settlement and that everyone enjoyed it.
